A visual artist working between abstraction and figuration, creating paintings that explore emotion, vulnerability and inner transformation.

Bio

Max Hikm is a visual artist born in Ukraine and currently based in the Netherlands. His artistic path began in the early 2000s with graffiti and street art, gradually evolving into a more personal practice focused on expressive figurative painting. Working between abstraction and figuration, Max explores emotional and psychological states, vulnerability, transformation and the tension between inner experience and external reality. His work often uses fragmented bodies, simplified forms and intense color as ways to approach memory, identity and human presence. His practice has been shaped by years of participation in street art, exhibitions, public art projects and visual festivals across Ukraine and Europe.

Artist Statement

At the center of his work is a search for forms that can hold vulnerability, transformation and inner tension. Rather than presenting fixed narratives, the paintings open spaces where the body appears fragmented, suspended or caught between presence and disappearance. These figures function as emotional and psychological metaphors, shaped through gesture, distortion and atmosphere. His visual language is built from layered textures, spontaneous marks and simplified forms, creating compositions that feel intimate, tense and unresolved. Color is treated not as decoration but as an emotional environment. A recurring ultramarine blue becomes a space of silence, reflection and psychological depth.
